WhatsApp is banning users who have been using WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp

WhatsApp is banning accounts of users who have been using modified versions of the app like WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp.

Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp is banning accounts of users who have been using modified versions of the app like WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp. These altered versions of the messaging app are developed by third-parties where the company cannot validate its security practices. These unofficial apps violate the Terms of Service clause of the official app.

“If you received an in-app message stating your account is ‘Temporarily banned’ this means that you’re likely using an unsupported version of WhatsApp instead of the official app,” the company wrote in a post on Monday.

The accounts have not been banned permanently, although users have been advanced to back their chats up before making the switch.

“You must download the official app to continue using WhatsApp,” the post noted.

Google Launches ‘Bolo’ Tutor App in India

Google is expanding its suite of apps designed for the Indian market with today’s launch of a new language-learning app aimed at children, called Bolo.

The app, which is aimed at elementary school-aged students, leverages technology like Google’s speech recognition and text-to-speech to help kids learn to read in both Hindi and English.

To do so, Bolo offers a catalog of 50 stories in Hindi and 40 in English, sourced from Storyweaver.org.in. The company says it plans to partner with other organizations in the future to expand the story selection.

Included in the app is a reading buddy, “Diya,” who encourages and corrects the child when they read aloud. As kids read, Diya can listen and respond with feedback. (Google notes all personal information remains on-device to protect kids’ privacy.) Diya can also read the text to the child and explain the meaning of English words. As children progress in the app, they’ll be presented with word games that win them in-app rewards and badges to motivate them.

The app works offline — a necessity in large parts of India — where internet access is not always available. Bolo can be used by multiple children, as well, and will adjust itself to their own reading levels.

What is Google Duplex ?

Google Duplex is currently available on Pixel first-generation, Pixel 2, and Pixel 3 smartphones.

Google Duplex, the artificially intelligent system that acts as a medium between the caller and receiver, is now available to the Pixel device owners in more areas in the US. Initially began as a pilot programme for select users in select locations in the US, Google Duplex has been expanded to 43 US states for Pixel devices but more Android, as well as iOS, devices will be covered “over the next few weeks”.

Among the new states that are supported by Google Duplex are Alabama, Arizona, Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Utah, and Washington. The states that are not getting Google Duplex as of now are Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Montana, and Texas.

While there are only seven states are remaining in the US, Google has not said anything on when Duplex will roll out to countries outside the US. India is also not supported yet, but Google’s recent investment in the country may give some hope.

Google Duplex is currently available on Pixel first-generation, Pixel 2, and Pixel 3 smartphones. But Google has noted in a blog post that phones running Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher and iPhone models with Google Assistant installed will get the Duplex feature in coming weeks.

Powered by AI, Google Duplex can make reservations at restaurants, bookings at salons, and more with just a command. Google Assistant will make calls necessary to make appointments at offline stores on the user’s behalf. Giving out a disclosure beforehand, Google Assistant will communicate with the staff and provide them with the essential information required while making a reservation.

When the reservation is confirmed, Google Assistant logs everything down on the screen so as to apprise the user. It even creates a calendar event and reminder for when the reservation or appointment is fixed.

Samsung is working on a TV that requires no cables whatsoever to function. An electromagnetic bar is mounted between the TV and the wall, drawing current from a base station, which also doubles as a soundbar, that generates an electromagnetic field in the room the TV is located.

Wireless chargers take advantage of the electromagnetic field to pass current between a charging pad and a supported device — with the main difference here being that Samsung’s solution enables there to be a gap between the two. To start, though, the gap will have to be fairly small.
